Experience the thunderous, joyful power of live taiko drumming with San Jose Taiko, one of the world's premier Japanese drumming ensembles. Taiko, the Japanese word for drum, comes to life in SJT's signature style: a fusion of traditional Japanese rhythms, world music influences, and synchronized choreography so kinetic it's often described as "dancing with drums." Founded in 1973 by third-generation Japanese Americans seeking to express their cultural identity through music, SJT is recognized as a pioneer in contemporary taiko and has spent five decades connecting audiences across cultural boundaries through the universal language of rhythm. Recipients of the National Endowment for the Arts' highest honors and the Japanese government's Foreign Minister's Commendation, this is a rare New York appearance by one of America's most celebrated performing ensembles.
