This season, Queens Theatre’s 28th, features an exciting and eclectic mix of programming. One of the pleasures of my job is getting to know the artists who work on our stages. The caliber of artists who will be performing here in the coming months is extraordinary.
Our Theatre Series features two delightful comedies, one new and the other classic. We will be producing In the Car with Blossom and Len, a charming play by Joni Fritz, the writer of Girl’s Room, which many of you will remember in a 2007 Queens Theatre production. We will also be presenting the Walnut Street Theatre’s production of Neil Simon’s hilarious comedy, Last of the Red Hot Lovers. A highlight of last season was our production of To Kill a Mockingbird. In the tradition of American classics, this season, we will be producing The Miracle Worker, the immortal story of Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan.
The Dance Series features world class companies and a variety of classical and contemporary styles. Keigwin + Company’s program in October will include a special celebration Leonard Bernstein. Paul Taylor Dance Company will return to Queens Theatre in December – a month when the company gave many memorable performances here over the years. Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana will return for their only New York performance this year. Philadephia-based hip-hop dance company Rennie Harris Puremovement will make their Queens Theatre debut.
Queens Theatre’s 28th season will also include new play readings, family shows and special events. We will be adding more performances throughout the season, so I hope that you’ll stay in touch – by following us on Facebook and Twitter, visiting our website, or joining our mailing list (if you haven’t already).
I look forward to seeing you at the theater this year - but if you come in the late fall, I may miss you – I’m expecting my own “production” in November - a baby girl!
